VIEW OF MOTIVATION

Series of paintings exhibited at NAU Gallery in Stockholm, Sweden in 2014 and at Hverfisgallerí, Reykjavík, Iceland in 2015.

Football as a social activity, ceremony and a platform for communicate are  the subject  matter in Rakel McMahons latest series of paintings, View of Motivation. The game itself, it´s players and audience become a metaphor for a much broader view such as gender identity, stereotypes and sexuality.  

In the works  McMahon uses photographs of  players in action on the football field, analizing their physical expression and interactions with one and other. By transferring the players, from the field into a neutral setting creating an ambiguous context. This minor shift however utterly transforms the original image of the football player and the role of the audience as well as bringing the spotlight to delicate motives and human emotions.
